CAMBRIDGE LOWER SECONDARY
What is Pre-Level?

The Preparatory Level is the middle school level offering continuous education through grades 7, 8 and 9 in preparation for British IGCSE levels or the local Secondary examinations.

The Introductory level is the most comprehensive and unique elementary school qualification, thus preparing NTIC students for international examinations offered through the UK’s University of Cambridge international examinations.

The school environment can help or hinder the realization of goals for young children. Keeping this in view, the school provides the best possible environment that will contribute to the development of our students, both physically and mentally. Provision is made for continuous growth in social and emotional development through a balanced program that will meet the child’s needs. The emphasis in the school is on inculcating a ‘spirit of inquiry at a very early age.

A systematic and regular evaluation method of the student’s progress in all educational activities has been adopted, and a consolidated record of the student is maintained. The medium of instruction is English, emphasizing MATHS, SCIENCE, ENGLISH, ICT, GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE, ART AND DESIGN AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION.

Preparatory levels offer a gateway to the IGCSE level or the local secondary examinations, focusing on a solid academic foundation at such critical years through developing an aptitude towards inquiry and concept base learning at each school level.

What is Cambridge IGCSE

Cambridge IGCSE is the world’s most popular international curriculum for 14-16-year old, leading to globally recognized and valued Cambridge IGCSE qualifications. It is taken in more than 160 countries worldwide. Cambridge IGCSE encourages learner-centered and inquiry-based approaches to learning. It develops learners’ creative thinking, inquiry, and problem-solving skills, giving learners excellent preparation for the next stage in their education. Schools can build a core curriculum, extend it to suit their learners and introduce cross-curricular perspectives. Clearly defined learning outcomes and content mean that Cambridge IGCSE is compatible with other curricula and is internationally relevant and sensitive to different needs and cultures. Cambridge IGCSE provides excellent preparation for the Cambridge Advanced stage, including Cambridge International AS and A Levels and Cambridge Pre-U and other progression routes.

Subject Selection

NTIC chooses a group of subjects in line with their interests, and the Guidance Counsellor ensures a strong connection between interests and University Admissions. Each student adopts a course of study unique to their academic interests with knowledge of equivalence requirements available to parents during subject selection. It is advised to take certain subject combinations based on the chosen field of study at A’ Level and Higher Education institutions. At NTIC, students can enroll for either a purely British curriculum or simultaneously run both British and Nigerian curricula. This entails that the students graduate with both IGCSE and WAEC results. However, NTIC students usually take a wide variety and range of paths to enrich their learning skills. The course differs for each subject, but there will be a mix of assessment methods throughout the program, including coursework, practical exercises, oral and listening tests, projects, and written examinations. Unlike the GCSE in the UK, the examination board has developed subjects’ contents to make them more relevant to the students in international settings. The Cambridge IGCSE subjects are grouped into five curriculum areas:

  • Group I: Languages.
  • Group II: Humanities and Social Sciences.
  • Group III: Sciences.
  • Group IV: Mathematics.
  • Group V: Creative and Professional.
